When a signing company pays late: what to do

By Signing Fee Tools · Last reviewed Oct 28, 2026

Check the payment terms you agreed to, confirm the invoice was received, then follow up on a fixed schedule: a friendly reminder at the due date, a firmer note about two weeks later, a final notice with a date, and then formal options. Keep every message factual and keep a written record.

Before you accept the next order

A follow-up schedule

  1. Due date: confirm they received the invoice; restate amount and due date.
  2. About 2 weeks past due: polite reminder, invoice re-attached, ask for an expected payment date.
  3. About 4 weeks past due: firmer note referencing earlier messages and the agreed terms.
  4. Final notice: state a specific date by which you need payment and what you'll do next.

These intervals are a suggestion for staying organized, not a legal requirement.
